RETURN TO LIVE! marks a number of firsts for Newport’s innovative dance company – IMC’s first Providence production to be hosted at The WaterFire Arts Center – AND the first hybrid production offering limited capacity Live Audience and a simulcast Live Stream broadcast.

Performance dates run May 6-8 at 8:00pm, at the WaterFire Arts Center, 475 Valley Street, Providence. May 6 is available for live-stream viewing, and limited capacity Live Attendance is available on Friday May 7 & Saturday May 8th performances. NEWPORT’S RESIDENT CONTEMPORARY BALLET ANNOUNCES
NEW SERIES OF STREAMING AND ON-DEMAND PERFORMANCES

IMC announces performance dates and tickets on sale for its new spring repertory production of TOGETHER IN THIS DREAM- Dancing Through The Digital Divide.

Live streaming performances are scheduled for March 5 & 6 at 7:30 pm, and recorded encore performances will be made available through On-Demand streaming starting March 11. Tickets including both the Live & On-Demand productions are $35, and $20 for On-demand only tickets are on sale now at www.Islandmovinco.org.

The program features two world premiere works, one, “Skeleton Crew” from IMC’s Associate Artistic Director, Danielle Genest, and a new work by guest choreographer, Mark Harootian, entitled “Steady Grip”. Genest has also set a previous work “Venus and a Crescent Moon” on IMC for the first time. Rounding out the program are restaged works from Colin Connor, Rodney Rivera, and IMC’s Artistic Director, Miki Ohlsen.

The show will be approximately 60 minutes in length and Live Stream performances will engage creative conversations with artists & audience members immediately following the performances on each of the evenings. The performances will be live-streamed from the Newport Congregational church as part of an on-going partnership between IMC and the non-profit organization that operates the space and oversees the partnerships educational & performance programs in the space.

PRODUCTION TO AIR THROUGH MULTIPLE PLATFORMS IN DECEMBER

Island Moving Company is pleased to announce the World Premiere of its newest film, Through Her Eyes – ANewport Nutcracker Reimagined – just in time for the holidays.

While in-person performances remain limited this year, IMC’s unique approach to its annual family favorite, A Newport Nutcracker, has been reimagined as a spectacular 30-minute feature film, making its holiday classic more accessible than ever this year.

Imparting a welcome sense of magic and whimsy for the holiday season, Through Her Eyes – A Newport Nutcracker Reimagined was filmed at multiple, majestic properties of the Preservation Society of Newport County, and follows a young girl’s magical, global journey of discovery, and self-empowerment.  Journey along with IMC Dancers, meet familiar characters, travel to fantastical places, and experience the warmth, joy, and hope at the heart of IMC’s unique holiday tale.

IMC ANNOUNCES FALL SEASON OF INNOVATIVE, OUTDOOR, PHYSICALLY DISTANCED PERFORMANCES

Both events comply with all CDC & RI Dept. of Health guidelines for outdoor events, including physically distanced seating & required use of face masks. Tickets are on sale now.

IMC Is pleased to announce the World Premiere of its newest project, Out of Ruin, a Marta Renzi film, conceived & choreographed by IMC’s Artistic Director, Miki Ohlsen & Associate Artistic Director, Danielle Genest, featuring the dancers of Island Moving Company. A red-carpet Experience is planned for the film’s Newport screening at Cardines Field on Friday October 2 at 6:30 pm. The film was shot this summer at locations across Newport, Jamestown, and Little Compton featuring much of Rhode Island’s natural beauty and historic landmarks in an original, captivating, and lush cinematic short. Inspired by a poem by Patience Strong (*provided below), this latest work shares a visually rich and kinetic allegory of individual clans in isolation who journey to discover their paths to a place of unity.

The week following the film premiere, IMC will present Its latest repertory production eMERGE!, a breathtaking selection of new & restaged dances, October 9-11 at Blithewold Gardens & Arboretum in Bristol, RI.  Out of Ruin, will receive an East Bay screening on Thursday, October 8th at 6:30 as part of IMC’s outdoor series at Blithewold. eMERGE! features the premiere of new works from guest choreographer Colin Connor, former Artistic Director of the Jose Limon Company, as well as a new work from IMC’s Associate Artistic Director, Danielle Genest. IMC TO PERFORM TWO NEW SHOWS AT NEWPORT CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IN OCTOBER

Island Moving Company (IMC), Newport’s Contemporary Ballet announces performance dates for two new productions at the newly restored Newport Congregational Church. An evening repertory show titled “The Nature of Light” and children’s matinee shows of “Alice In Wonderland” will be performed between October 17 – 20.

The Nature of Light will feature new work by Island Moving Company’s Artistic Director, Miki Ohlsen, and choreography by the iconic José Limon, Colin Connor and IMC’s Associate Artistic Director, Danielle Genest. The show’s title is inspired by the reflective light-play from the historic church venue’s notable La Farge stained glass windows. The entire show will be approximately 90 minutes in length and performed to live music by an ensemble of musicians from across Southern New England under the direction of Adrienne Taylor.

Performance dates for The Nature of Light are Thursday, October 17, Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19. The Thursday and Friday night shows will provide a cash bar and tickets range between $49 – $69. The Saturday show will include an open bar and catered intermission by Russell Morin Catering & Events. Tickets for Saturday range between $79 – $99.

The classic story of Alice In Wonderland will get a fresh Island Moving Company spin on Rhode Island Ballet Theater’s Artistic Director Nancy McAuliffe’s original version. With a classical music score by Dimitri Shastokovich and new, exciting choreography by Nancy McAuliffe, Miki Ohlsen and Danielle Genest, guests of all ages will follow the white rabbit as he takes Alice and the audience down the rabbit hole to Wonderland, where they will meet the Red Queen, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and all the magical residents of Wonderland.

Performance dates and times for Alice in Wonderland are October 17 &18 at 4:30pm, October 19 at 3:00pm and October 20 at 1:00pm & 3:00pm. The performances are intended for children 3 and up and run one hour with no intermission. All tickets are $30.

Thanks to generous support from The Bazarsky Family Foundation, IMC will provide free admission to select performances of Alice in Wonderland to groups of kids from Newport’s Pell Elementary School, The Boys and Girls Club of Newport, Boys Town, and The Martin Luther King Jr. Center. Sponsorships are available for both of both The Nature of Light and Alice In Wonderland, and commissions are welcome for The Nature of Light. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen for 36 years, Island Moving Company has produced and presented dances by a diverse group of choreographers, working with musicians, poets, and visual artists. IMC is known for its creative use of unusual venues, creating site specific work at Rosecliff Mansion, Belcourt Castle, the Tall Ship Oliver Hazard Perry, the Great Friends Meeting Hall, Fort Adams, and other notable sites across Newport County.

Follow the White Rabbit as he takes Alice and the audience down the rabbit hole to Wonderland, where the audience from ages 6 to 99 will meet the Red Queen, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and all the magical residents of Wonderland.

With a classical music score by Dimitri Shastokovich, libretto by Nancy McAuliffe, and new and exciting choreography by Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen, we look forward to unveiling this exciting new production at the newly restored Newport Congregational Church.

America’s first Children’s Poet Laureate, Jack Prelutsky, has written funny and clever verses to accompany the composer Camille Saint-Saëns’s “The Carnival of the Animals,” and Island Moving Co.’s Junior Company, under the direction of Christine Sandorfi, has crafted a singular ballet encompasing both the words and music, inviting the dancers and audience to “tromp like an elephant, hop like a kangaroo, glide like a swan, and be creatively inspired by this joyful work.” – Judith Bachleitner, head of the music department at the prestigious Rudolf Steiner School in New York City.
