The Junior Company of Newport’s Island Moving Co. will present the charming work,
“Carnival of the Animals”
at the Island Moving Co. studio on Sunday, February 17th at 2:30 and 3:30pm.
The “Carnival of the Animals” is Directed by Brooke DiFrancesco and choreographed by Christine Sandorfi. A Lion, two Hens, a Donkey, a Tortoise and other assorted creatures dance to music by Camille Saint-Saens in a production that lasts roughly one half hour. The Winter Festival presentation will be suitable for children of all ages and will include an opportunity to join the dancers in some dancing after the performance.
As Newport’s resident contemporary ballet company, Island Moving Company brings dance to the community in the form of live performances, residencies in the public schools, and team-building workshops.
IMC’s Junior Company is a select group of talented young dancers ranging from twelve to eighteen years of age. Each year the Junior Company commissions, rehearses and presents a program of classical & contemporary repertoire to audiences in the Newport area.
The Junior Company is an excellent opportunity for serious ballet students to work with talented choreographers and gain valuable performance experience.
Participation is by invitation only from IMC Artistic Director, Miki Ohlsen, in concert with the Junior Company Director, Brooke DiFrancesco. The Junior Company season typically runs from early January to mid-March and encompasses an intensive rehearsal schedule (including during school vacation) and several short theatrical performances in the community, and culminates in a full repertoire show which will be presented this year at Portsmouth High School.
Junior Company members may also have the opportunity to participate in IMC’s A Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff (audition required) or other professional performances throughout the year (by invitation).
