KATIE MOORHEAD (Media, PA), trained with Oxford Center for Dance, PA. There, she choreographed from the age of 9 and was a teacher’s assistant. She credits this early introduction of her teaching knowledge and creativity in music and story to her Director and first ballet teacher, Dina Gazzero. At 15 she performed with members from Russian Ballet Theater, DE in Robert La Fosse production of The Nutcracker Suite and joined the school, First State Ballet Theatre. There she placed a Silver Metal in Ballet and Contemporary junior devision in the Youth American Grand Prix. She subsequently trained with Alla Sizova and Jacqueline Akhemdova at the the Kirov Academy of Washington DC, graduating with honors. Katie joined Arts Ballet Theater of Florida where she was the first to receive an Honorable Merit Diploma from the Tersiphora Foundation of St. Petersburg, Russia. While there, she toured with the company to Denmark and Poland. In New York, she has worked with American Repertory Ballet, Eglevsky Ballet, and Staten Island Ballet. In 2011, she toured with Giada Ferrone to the Florence Dance Festival, Italy. She works as Rehearsal Director and company member with Untitled Collective, an international company split between Australia and NYC. With Untitled Collective, she re-stages work for the director that is performed in NYC and Canada. She toured with the company in the fall of 2012 for the opening of the Blue Mountains Cultural Center in Katoomba, NSW. She is a member of Bradley Shelver Contemporary Dance Theater and works as a freelance artist with David Fernandez, CCDC, NYB Ballet, Indelible Dance, Seth Gertsacov, and Vanessa Tamburi. Katie is a ballet substitute at Alvin Ailey Extension Program for Kat Wildish as well as a licensed GYROTONIC® and Gyrokinesis® instructor serving NYC and RI. During the fall of 2014 she directed and produced a benefit performance joining dancers, artist, and musicians at the Jamestown Arts Center, titled “Pro-Aesthetic,” of which she was very grateful and honored by all that participated. Her own Gyrotonic studio, EBB & FLOW opened just last year in Middletown where she trains golfers, athletics and anyone looking to heal or prevent injury. Katie began dancing with Island Moving Company as a guest dancer in the spring of 2013 and joined the company that summer. She looks forward to another great season with this unique company!
