IAN MATYSIAK

IAN MATYSIAK, a native of Holden, Massachusetts, started his intensive ballet training when he attended the Walnut Hill School, a premier performing arts boarding school in Natick, MA. Upon graduating, Ian studied with the Boston Ballet Center for Dance Education in the school’s advanced trainee level. He attended summer intensives in New York City over the years at the School of American Ballet and American Ballet Theater. Ian began his professional career with Festival Ballet of Providence, in Providence, Rhode Island, under the direction of Mihailo Djuric. He joined the company in 2008 as a trainee, and was shortly promoted to company dancer. Some of his most memorable roles have been Von Rothbart in Swan Lake, Eldar Aliev’s A Thousand and One Nights, Peter in Jorden Morris’s production of Peter Pan, lead roles in several ballets choreographed by George Balanchine set by repetiteur legend Sandra Jennings, as well as numerous contemporary works from choreographers such as Viktor Plotnikov, Gianni DiMarco, George Birkadze, and Joseph Morrisey. Ian now resides in Newport, RI and this is his first season appearing with Island Moving Company.
