Learn a few new moves while you’re physically distancing!

To break out of your isolation blues and get you dancing, Island Moving Company and the Newport Academy of Ballet are offering a valuable thread of continuity and social connection with our new Climb the Walls & Dance! series. These FREE, 30-minute micro-classes are a great way to engage with new and wonderful things to watch and do!

Climb the Walls & Dance! provides both live-streamed and recorded content  to do at home, available through IMC’s website and social media platforms.

Push ups, burpees, and sit ups oh my! Raum will lead you through a series of workouts that will get your heart rate up and those endorphins going. If you have workout mat or yoga mat it would be preferred but not required.

Get up and take a moment to stretch out those tight muscles with Emily S. What better way to relieve the tension and stress form your body?

Revka will lead a follow along movement class for young children. This playful and energetic class will introduce ballet concepts though stretching, exploration of movement, and imagination. All that is needed is an open space and a scarf (or something similar like a cloth or t-shirt to dance with).

Connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements with company dancer Lauren. 

Libby will lead you through a simple to follow beginner ballet barre and gentle floor stretch. Follow along using a chair or counter top as your barre.

Jose will lead you through the basics of salsa and get those hips moving and grooving! Learn a little combo that you can take out on the town and electrify the dance floor.

Join Greg for a simple vinyasa flow and calm your mind during these difficult times, namaste.

Emily will lead you through an easy to follow mat pilates workout to help all levels tone and strengthen. No equipment required, if you don’t have a mat, pull out a towel or rug!

In this class Katie will guide you through sequences to focus on your breathing, clearing and expanding the lungs, and visualizing energy and mindfulness for mental clarity and stress relief. Participants will sit (chair) or stand for the class.
