Farewell to IMC Great Friend Jean Di Bona

Island Moving Co. parties will be far less glamorous without the sweet presence of our friend Jean Di Bona, who passed away at Christmastime.  Jean and her marvelous hats were a welcome sight at so many of our events and she loved the dancers, following the Company’s successes avidly. Her son Vin Di Bona has made a generous contribution to the Company in his mother’s name which we want to acknowledge with a tribute to Jean’s style, warmth and open heart.

Happy New Year Happy 34th Season!

Image de Vida - DLBThe dancers, Miki and all the staff wish you a Happy New Year.  We’re looking forward to seeing you at our Opening Weekend shows at the end of February. We’ve added shows of both Mother Goose and our repertory program.  Bring your little ones to Rosecliff for a fun afternoon with Mother Goose and then return with your best beloved for a gorgeous evening of dance in the stunning Rosecliff ballroom.  We’re excited to be premiering a new work by Jerry Opdenaker, who will be coming up from Florida to work with the dancers.  Look out for invitations to come see him in action at the studio. Here’s to a glorious 34th!

Mother Goose – Perfect Present for Your Little Ones

Jack&Jill LCC Lu LoCome see the Island Moving Co’s dancers in Mother Goose at Rosecliff this coming February.  Get your tickets and make sure they’re under the tree for Christmas!

This is a ballet designed to include our littlest audience members, ages 3 through 12, although it will be a treat for all ages. Join Mother Goose as she recounts the wonderful, playful rhymes and see them danced by IMC’s own dancers.

A minstrel leads the audience from room to room, and the inimitable Lisa Reimer plays the lady herself, with hilarious brio.  See magical performances of  Humpty Dumpty, Miss Muffet, Jack and Jill. You might even get a chance to dance with the famous “Old Woman from France”.

There will be photo opportunities with the characters at the end of the performance.

Tickets are currently available at newportmansions.org

Dancers prepare for Nutcracker at Rosecliff

The Island M2014 Nutcracker5 TPPoving Co. dancers have moved into Rosecliff, along with the rest of our Nutcracker production.  The house is being decorated for the Oelrich’s Christmas Eve celebration; lights and sound are being put in place and the entire cast will be blocking and rehearsing this week in preparation for Friday’s opening.  Despite a somewhat misleading Newport Daily News headline, all of our professional dancers are cast in the show (!) and ready to deliver sublime performances for the short one-week run.  If you have not gotten tickets yet, we’ll be sorry not to see you at Rosecliff.  Please sign up for our emails so that you can be in good time to purchase tickets in 2016.2014Nutcracker3 TPP

Island Moving Co performs for NEA Chairman Jane Chu

Aza & Lauren Jane Chu - TPPIsland Moving Co. was proud to help the Newport arts community put its best foot forward for the visit of National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu last week.  In a collaboration with our partners at the Opera House, the dancers treated the Chairman to a surprise performance in the second floor rooms of the 1867 Opera House, which will be renovated and open for performances (by IMC as well as others) by the end of 2017.  The dancers performed excerpts of Colin Connor’s Everything is Closer and met with Ms. Chu afterward.Jane Chu group - TPP
