We had a blast with Ben Jacobsen, drone photographer, at Wyndham this week. Ben created a video montage of the stunning landscape and the beautiful dancers to help promote our Nuit Blanche: Cote d’Azur on July 10th. See it here. Tickets are still available, but we do expect to sell out for this one-of-a-kind Newport event. IMC’s Nuit Blanche shows off our creative collaborations, our unique site specific dance and the incredible landscapes in our City by the Sea. Get your tickets here!
New York’s Joe Celej was in the studio last week making a new work for the Great Friends Dance Festival. He created the work for five of IMC’s dancers: Azamat, Lauren, Tara, Ian and Katie. Joe brings a great energy to the work — we loved the piece he made for the Great Friends Dance Festival two summers ago and had to have him back. Looking forward to the premiere of “tonight we dream together” at the Great Friends in July! Many thanks to our commissioner John Paul Primiano for making Joe’s visit possible.
The National Endowment for the Arts recently recognized our innovative Great Friends Touring Project with an ArtWorks grant. The grant will help us bring more dance companies into the Project, which helps us tour to new cities in exchange for a summer residency at the Great Friends Dance Festival. The first company we will host with the grant is Samruk, from the capital city of Kazakhstan. Artistic Director Gulnara Adamova is working on their visas now and will join us in July for performances at the Meeting House and to create the new, joint piece with Samruk and IMC dancers which closes the Festival. Other companies coming to the Festival include Ekklesia and Elm City Dance Collective from New Haven, CT; Joe Celej and Co from New York and iMEE.
